NutritionFacts.org - Michael Greger, MD is one of the most respected authorities in nutrition's impact on our health. He scours the peer-reviewed, scientific studies published in the scholarly literature and creates daily videos and blogs that both medical professionals and lay people can easily apply in their daily lives and their patients' lives. If I could only recommend one source, one web site, this would be it.
The Cochrane Collaboration - one of the highest authorities in medical research
U.S. Preventive Services Task Force - provides the most unbiased and evidenced-based recommendations; does not recommend many common medical tests and procedures
Informed Medical Decisions Foundation - provides patients and their families with unbiased, evidenced-based information about available medical options and possible outcomes so that the patient is better equipped to make an informed decision that is aligned with their preferences
Number Needed to Treat - a physician-maintained web site that utilizes a framework and rating system that they developed to evaluate therapies based on their patient-important benefits and harms as well as a system to evaluate diagnostics by patient sign, symptom, lab test, or study. They use only the highest quality, evidenced-based studies (frequently, but not always Cochrane reviews), and they accept no outside funding or advertisements
Dartmouth Atlas of Health Care - enables you to determine if your community has higher rates of different types of surgery than the national norm. It will not necessarily help you to make a medical decision that is right for you, but can provide you with insight that the treatment your doctor recommends may not depend entirely on you and your medical condition, but also on how doctors in your community practice medicine
Therapeutics Initiative - provides physicians and pharmacists with up-to-date, evidenced-based, practical information on prescription drug therapy
WorstPills.org - an expert, independent, second opinion on more than 1,800 prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and supplements
IndUSHealth - founded by a former U.S. hospital CEO to help patients evaluate their global medical options
Environmental Working Group - for information on pesticides, herbicides, and other chemicals. Creators of the Dirty Dozen (pesticide-laden produce to buy organic if at all possible) and the Clean 15 (produce that contains lower levels of pesticides that can be purchased conventionally grown if need be)
